President: Prof/Dr Brian Tomlinson

Brian is Founder and President of MATSDA and the author of many publications(including Discover English, Materials Development in Language Learning and Developing Materials for Language Learning). He has presented in forty countries and worked in Nigeria, Zambia, Vanuatu, Indonesia, Japan and Singapore. brianjohntomlinson@gmail.com

Chair: Dave Allan

Dave is Director of NILE, the Norwich Institute for Language Education, a Fellow of the School of Education and Professional Development at the University of East Anglia and a consultant for the British Council and the Council of Europe. For 9 years co-ordinator of the IATEFL TEASIG, and an author for OUP, Dave has run courses and seminars for teachers in over 40 countries. He is a passionate, lifelong supporter of Sunderland AFC. dave@nile-elt.com

Committee Secretary: Hitomi Masuhara (Dr.)

Hitomi is a founding member and Secretary of MATSDA and Deputy Director of the MA in Applied Linguistics and the MA in TESOL at the University of Liverpool. She has worked in Japan, Oman, Singapore and the UK and has presented at Conferences all over the world. Her publications include journal articles, book chapters and books (e.g. Materials and Methods in ELT (2013) Wiley, co-authored with J. McDonough and C. Folio Editor: Tamas Kiss (Prof.)

Professor Tamas Kiss works at Sunway University, Centre for English Language Studies, in Malaysia. He has been involved with language teacher education programmes in Europe, the Middle East, South Asia, Latin America and Southeast Asia. His main research interests include language pedagogy, creativity, intercultural communication and culture in language teaching materials. He co-authored Creativity and English Language Teaching: From inspiration to implementation (2018, Palgrave Macmillan) with Alan Maley. His latest book projects include an edited volume with Joanna Joseph Jeyaraj and David D. Perrodin, Critical Pedagogies in English Language Teaching and Learning in South East Asia (2024, MELTA-USM Press) and a monograph co-authored with Freda Mishan, Developing Intercultural Learning Materials (2024, Routledge). tamask@sunway.edu.my

Membership Secretary: Jensen Zhuang (Dr.)

Jensen is Director of Oxbridge AcaVice, a UK-based company offering a comprehensive range of bespoke student and academic services, including proofreading, translation, publication support, research consultancy and IELTS preparation courses (www.acavice.com). Jensen has 30 years of experience in teaching and researching applied linguistics at UK universities and overseas, such as the University of Huddersfield and Loughborough University. Currently engaged in a CFL (Chinese as a Foreign Language) textbook evaluation project, he conducts original research and disseminates outputs through publications and international conference presentations, with his next talk to give at ChinaCALL, August 2024, Beijing. Jensen is an active manuscript reviewer for several major journals, including the Journal of Pragmatics. membership@matsda.org

Promotions Manager: Tom Court

Tom Court is an ELT assistant professor in the Faculty of Education and Social Work at Brigham Young University-Hawaii. He is currently a student in the Ed.D. in TESOL program at Anaheim University, CA, and he received his M.Ed. TESL and B.A. in East Asian Studies from the University of Calgary in Canada. Tom also earned a multiple-subject teaching credential from San Diego State University. He has taught in Japan, California, Oregon and now Hawaii. promotions@matsda.org

Promotions Officer: Niall Walsh

Niall Walsh is an associate professor at Aichi Prefectural University in Japan and has over 20 years of experience teaching English in Japan. His professional interests include materials development, learner and teacher agency in language teaching, and student-generated content. He has published articles in these areas and has presented at both national and international academic conferences. He was recently awarded a Japanese government research grant to investigate the use of generative AI in materials development and is currently pursuing a PhD in Applied Linguistics at Mary Immaculate College in Ireland. mullingarman@gmail.com
